March is when the real fun starts for gardeners! Master Gardeners Ruth Flescher and Mary Kay Thompson will be here to talk about planning a food garden, whether you're starting from scratch or planting in an established space. There's a lot to consider so it's never too early to make your plan.
They'll talk about how to manage perennial food plants like asparagus, rhubarb, and strawberries. These plants produce year after year so choosing and preparing your site is important. Then there are so many annual foods you can grow, each with ideal start times, space requirements and time to harvest. Figuring out what to put where and when can be a real challenge. They'll discuss the possibilities, requirements and other considerations to help you make the best use of whatever space you have.
As usual, we'll have lots of seeds (food, flower and herb) for you to take home whether you're starting them indoors now or waiting for the right time to plant directly in the garden. We can always use help getting them all packaged so this will be a hands-on workshop for those willing to assist (though all are welcome). Additionally, there are some limited quantity seeds we reserve for these programs, and you can still take home a seed starting kit if you haven't gotten one yet this year.
