Join us as we discuss the book The Dispossessed by Ursula. Le Guin with Beloit College Students. This is part of a fun, larger community read where community members can enjoy learning about Le Guin's impact in writing and in Beloit.

The Dispossessed is well-suited for teen and advanced tween readers, although it does contain some mature themes. The novel includes a few instances of strong language (profanities), as well as brief but frank passages referring to sex, embodiment, childbirth, bullying, suicidal feelings, and violence. Chapter 7 ends with a brief but explicit scene of sexual assault (pp. 229-31), and Chapter 9 describes police gun violence that ends in suffering and death (pp. 301-07). Readers can still understand and enjoy Le Guin’s novel if they skip these sections.
