Join us as local author John Graf talks about his book, Simulating Satchel: A What-If History of Integrated Major League Baseball in 1934.
This book presents a multi-dimensional simulation, a " Utopian Baseball Fantasy," to explore what might have happened had baseball integrated before the 1934 major league season. Hall of Fame pitcher Satchel Paige and nearly 100 of his Negro Leagues contemporaries are freed from the ban of the sport's color line and added to the exclusionary American and National leagues.
John will be presenting a PowerPoint slide show on the origins of the book project that simulates what might have happened had major league baseball admitted Black players in 934,13 years before Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers. Also, part of John's presentation will be mention of local Beloit angles, including Satchel Paige's connections to Beloit through his barnstorming days and local family members related to past players in what "during the day" were called baseball's "Negro Leagues."
