Event Details
Fermentation is an easy way to preserve the fresh produce of summer for months. Foods will taste pickled and look canned, but brining is so much easier. It just takes salt, water, spices and time; no vinegar or boiling water needed. We’ll explain the basic process, the brine ratios for different types of vegetables, herbs and spices you can use and more. We'll cover everything a beginner needs to know, but experienced fermenters are definitely welcome for this workshop! Join us for new ideas, bring a sample or recipe to share, or just add your experience to the discussion.
We’ll taste fizzy fermented cherry tomatoes, brined 'pickles', fermented green beans, traditional sauerkraut and more. We'll have some fresh veggies and spices on hand, so you’ll get experience by making your own custom jar to take home.
Participants may bring an unregistered guest (12 or over), but only registered adults will receive a starter kit along with their jar to make and take home. Feel free to invite a family member, neighbor or friend!
